Luxury Andalusian villas with direct beach access to Marbella's best beaches — this is Los Monteros.

History & Development

It all started with a wealthy banker in the 1960s named Ignacio Coca. He built the Los Monteros Hotel right on this stretch of the coast, and it became a place that attracted royalty and celebrities even before Marbella was really on the map. Throughout the seventies, the luxury residential area of Los Monteros got built around it. The hotel itself just went through a full renovation and reopened under the Kimpton brand in 2025, which put the area once again on the map, not just on legacy reputation.

Properties in Los Monteros

So what does Los Monteros' origin story mean for you as a buyer today? It means true luxury Andalusian style from the seventies and eighties, low-density build, mature gardens and blooming streets, villas set back from one another, offering real privacy — rare this close to the coast.

The Beach

And yes, here you have direct beach access without crossing a main road, and the beach itself is really beautiful — calm, fine golden sand, and shallow water, with natural dunes running along and a very well taken care of boardwalk. This is just a wonderful place to spend time, and in my opinion this is the best beach on the entire Costa del Sol, yes I said it.

For most of the year, it is a very quiet beach. Even during the peak summer months, it never feels overly crowded, mainly because parking isn't permitted on the surrounding residential streets.

Amenities Nearby

By the beach you have La Cabane Restaurante & Beach Club, in collaboration with Dolce & Gabbana. Here you can enjoy a dinner or have something smaller to eat or drink by the pool.

In the area you also have the Los Monteros Racket Club for tennis and padel.

For golfers, Santa Clara Golf Marbella is just a 5-minute drive away — a prestigious 18-hole golf course with practice facilities, a driving range, and a welcoming clubhouse restaurant.

Located just on the other side of the A7 coastal road, there's the public hospital covering the entire Marbella and Mijas area, Hospital Costa del Sol.

And for families, you have the English International College close by, and others in and near the Elviria area, such as the German School in La Mairena.

Downsides to Consider

Now let's talk about the tradeoffs. Los Monteros is very luxury and prestigious, and with that comes high price tags — you are paying for the name, the land and the build.

There are a lot of modern properties, and most older ones have been fully renovated. However, you will come across properties on the market sold at a very high price point that still need significant renovations to bring them up to a modern standard.

Something else to keep in mind: there's almost nothing in terms of shops, bars, or restaurants inside Los Monteros itself, so you're driving out for daily life, either to Elviria to the east or Marbella to the west. That actually suits someone who wants quiet living, but might not be ideal if you want the option to walk to a restaurant, shops or a café from home.

And because Los Monteros sits right below the A-7 highway, some of the plots closer to it do get road noise, so keep that in mind for the property showing.
