Elviria sits around 10 minutes east of Marbella centre, right along the free A-7 coastal road, about 35 minutes from Málaga Airport.
It's not a village in the traditional sense, such as Mijas Pueblo — it's a well-established residential area that's developed its own identity over the past 70 years. Some locals even consider it the "real" Marbella.
What makes it unique is how such a relatively small area has such a variety, stretching from the coastline with beautiful golden beaches, up through pine forests and golf courses, all the way into the rocky hills. Each level has its own feel, and its own type of properties and surroundings.
Let's start all the way down by the beach. Elviria's coastline has some of the best beaches on the entire Costa del Sol — wide, soft golden sand, calm Mediterranean water, and a very relaxed atmosphere.
What really sets it apart is the pine trees that come right down to the beach — so you get this rare mix of forest and sea in the same place.
Along the beach, you'll find classic Spanish beach bars (chiringuitos). And then there's Nikki Beach, one of the most famous beach clubs in Spain, located next to the 5-star Don Carlos Hotel.
Moving up from the beach, you reach the Commercial Centre of Elviria. This is where daily life happens — restaurants, cafés, tapas bars, banks, a great Mercadona — just everything you need day to day.
For bigger shopping trips, you have Marbella's biggest shopping mall, La Cañada, just 10 minutes away.
There's a weekly Friday street market (Elviria/Las Chapas market), and also an eco/organic market in the same area on some Saturdays.
The food scene reflects the area — Spanish, Italian, Asian, British — a real mix of everything.
Elviria is one of the most international areas on the Costa del Sol. You'll meet Scandinavians, British, Germans, Dutch, French. That said, Elviria still has that true Spanish aura to it, with a Spanish population of around 60%. It's relaxed, welcoming, and easy to settle into — whether you're here short term or long term.
Elviria is also a great area for golf. Santa María Golf is one of the most established courses, an 18-hole course built around a restored 18th-century farmhouse, which gives it a special character.
Then you have Greenlife Golf in Elviria Hills — a smaller 9-hole course, perfect for improving your game. Right next to it you have the highly respected fine-dining restaurant El Lago.
Elviria has a gym, tennis and padel courts, but options are somewhat limited directly inside the area — there are, however, lots of options within a 5-minute drive in almost any direction.
Worth mentioning too: the adventure park, Aventura Amazonia, with zip lines and rope courses. If you have kids, this is a super fun destination.
One thing that really stands out about Elviria is the natural surroundings. Just above Elviria, you reach La Mairena, which is worth knowing about — up there, you're in a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, with views across the Mediterranean, Gibraltar, and on a clear day, all the way to Africa. In Elviria itself, you've got hiking and cycling trails running through the pine forests, so if you want nature, it's right on your doorstep.
A few things to keep in mind. Elviria is quite spread out — there isn't one central area you can walk everywhere from. You'll need a car to get around comfortably.
If you're looking for a traditional, walkable village feel, this probably isn't the right spot.
In summer, especially July and August, the beaches and beach clubs get busy, and traffic increases — but that's honestly unavoidable on the Costa del Sol by now.
On the practical side, you have schools, healthcare, and supermarkets all within a 5-10 minute drive.
Elviria is one of the most desirable residential areas in East Marbella. It stands out for its low-density urbanisations and high-quality properties, offering a great selection of elegant detached villas and spacious townhouses — homes with beautiful sea, mountain, or garden views, in classic Andalusian design.
A lot were built between the 70s and 90s, so it's mainly a resale market — but many buyers make light renovations, creating a great mix of modern with classic Andalusian charm.
