This is Benalmádena Pueblo. Narrow streets, whitewashed buildings, panoramic sea views — and for many, one of the most authentic pueblos on the Costa del Sol.
Benalmádena Pueblo sits in the hills, 300 metres above sea level. This is a real Andalusian village with a calm, lived-in Spanish atmosphere.
Many compare it to Mijas Pueblo, but the experience in my opinion is quite different. Mijas Pueblo has more shops and activity, and the feel is busier and more touristy, whereas Benalmádena Pueblo is more quiet, relaxed, and less crowded overall.
It's also more easily accessible — located just below the AP-7 motorway rather than deeper in the mountains — and you can reach the beach in just an 8-minute drive down the hill.
This pueblo has everything you expect from Andalusia — narrow, steep streets, smaller white charming apartments and townhouses, and plenty of peaceful squares where you can sit and enjoy the atmosphere.
The views from here are spectacular. On a clear day, you can see big parts of the coastline with the mountains of Morocco in the far distance. It's just a really nice place to slow down.
One great spot is Jardines del Muro, right by the 17th-century church — a very quiet garden area with many places to sit, take in the views, and listen to the nature.
Right below the pueblo you have the Castillo Colomares — a castle-like monument built in the 80s by a private individual, open to visitors for a small fee.
The property ownership in Benalmádena Pueblo is fairly balanced, with around 50% Spanish and 50% international owners. The reason this place feels so lived-in and keeps its Spanish soul is thanks to the Spanish residents who live here year-round.
There are plenty of cozy hotels and Airbnbs if you want to experience the pueblo for yourself.
Parking is also easier compared to Mijas Pueblo. I recommend using the public car park in the centre of the village — you can usually find a spot there.
In the pueblo, you have everything you need for everyday life: supermarkets, restaurants, cafés, a pharmacy, and even a fitness centre. You don't need to travel down to the coast for daily errands.
For living here full or part-time, a car is still recommended so you can explore the coast, although bus connections are also a common and reliable option for the residents living here.
