Right between Torremolinos and Fuengirola, you have Benalmádena, one of the most complete places to live on the Costa del Sol.

Location & Convenience

One of Benalmádena's biggest advantages is its location and convenience. You're only about 15 minutes from Málaga Airport by car, and around 30 minutes from Málaga city centre by train. The main train station is in Arroyo de la Miel, so getting around on the coast is easy.

This means you can live here without relying on your car every day, which is rare to say about other areas on the coast.

The Beach & Marina

Benalmádena has a pretty long beachfront promenade with all types of restaurants and cafés, and the beaches here are great too, but during peak summer months they can get very packed.

The marina is something Benalmádena is well known for. It gives the area a lively atmosphere all throughout the year — it's just a nice place to spend time and enjoy something to eat and drink.

Properties in Benalmádena

Let's move on to the properties. Back in the 60s and 70s, when southern Spain's real estate development really took off, Benalmádena was one of the first areas on the coast to be built outside of Málaga city.

The downside is that property quality varies significantly depending on where. Some communities are very well maintained, while others can feel dated unless they've been renovated. So it's extra important to evaluate each urbanisation individually before you buy.

Everyday Life

Since it's a very established area, it has all the services you need for year-round living — supermarkets, pharmacies, restaurants, cafés, gyms, and other amenities spread throughout the area and often within walking distance.

Rental & Investment Potential

Benalmádena remains one of the most popular tourist destinations on the Costa del Sol. From a buyer perspective, that's great for investors and second-home owners looking for rental income, as demand remains strong throughout much of the year. However, if you're looking for a quieter, more residential atmosphere, that's something worth keeping in mind.

Schools

There are also several schools in and around Benalmádena, including Colegio Internacional Torrequebrada and The British College Benalmádena in Torremuelle, which makes it very practical for families living here full-time.

Is Benalmádena Right for You?

So who is Benalmádena best suited for? I'd say someone looking for convenience, excellent transport connections, and who wants to reduce dependence on a car. It works well for both full-time residents, second-home buyers, and families. I'd also say it's great for the investor wanting to earn rental income because of its consistent demand.

It's probably less suited for someone looking for more privacy, or a quiet residential atmosphere away from tourism.
