Area guide
Premium apartments and townhouses with direct beach access, next door to Los Monteros — this is Bahía de Marbella.
Bahía de Marbella took shape in the 1990s, during Marbella's biggest wave of expansion, when golf courses and high-end urbanizations were going up all along this stretch of coast. Unlike the villa area Los Monteros sitting next door, which grew organically by wealthy buyers in the 60s around what is now the Kimpton Hotel, Bahía de Marbella was carefully planned out from day one — wide, well laid out streets, everything designed with intention rather than pieced together over decades, and with that beach lifestyle as the core focus.
So what does that mean for you as a buyer today? It means this is mostly apartments, townhouses and penthouse living, many of the communities right on the beach or a short walk from it — done in premium Andalusian style with landscaped gardens and community pools.
You will find villas here too, generally on larger, more private plots, but they're the exception, compared to Los Monteros where it's almost entirely villas.
Bahía de Marbella has always been a high-demand area, and the inventory is very limited, so there's normally very little on the market at any given time — as of today, even apartments are valued above one million euros.
Bahía de Marbella was constructed for beach living, and the beach itself is really beautiful — calm, fine golden sand, and shallow water, with natural dunes running along and a very well taken care of boardwalk. This is just a wonderful place to spend time, and in my opinion this is the best beach on the entire Costa del Sol. For most of the year, it is a very quiet beach. Even during the peak summer months, it never feels overly crowded. The neighbourhood itself is quiet, and residents love walking here — whether it's walking the dog or just taking in the surroundings. It's also very safe, with street cameras throughout, and local 24-hour security with manned security at the entrance.
From the beach, you reach La Cabane Restaurante & Beach Club, in collaboration with Dolce & Gabbana. Here you can enjoy a dinner or have something smaller to eat or drink by the pool.
In the neighbouring Los Monteros Racket Club you have tennis and padel courts.
For golfers, Santa Clara Golf Marbella is just a 5-minute drive away — a prestigious 18-hole golf course with practice facilities, a driving range, and a welcoming clubhouse restaurant.
Located just on the other side of the A7 coastal road, there is the public hospital covering the entire Marbella and Mijas area, Hospital Costa del Sol.
And for families, you have the English International College close by, and others in and near the Elviria area, such as the German School in La Mairena.
Now let's talk about the tradeoffs. Because Bahía de Marbella is mainly apartments and townhouses, you're paying less to get onto this stretch of coast than you would for a villa in Los Monteros, but frontline beach here still commands a real premium, and some of the older complexes will need updating.
Inside Bahía de Marbella itself there's almost nothing in terms of shops, bars, or restaurants, so for daily life you're driving out, either to Elviria or into central Marbella. That suits people who want a quiet, residential base, but it's worth knowing if you like being able to walk to a café or restaurant from home.
And being located right below the A-7, some of the apartment complexes closer to the highway do get road noise, so keep that in mind on a viewing.
If you want direct beach access, some of Marbella's best beaches, and calmer living, Bahía de Marbella should be on your list. Get in touch — I represent buyers only, so my job is to work for you, not the seller.
